Week 3 of Production - Murder at Curtain Call

Bit late of a post, but production is still running along! We’ve secured the Studio for filming, and we’ll be building a ‘dressing room’ set in the next week or so! Our Production Designer Emma is hard at work preparing the costume design and organising props to ensure a proper environment in the film. She and I took a tour of the local clothing shops and ensured some contacts for potential costumes.

Jessica and I had a meeting with one of our Cinematography lecturers, Jack Shelbourn, to get his thoughts and recommendations on Noir lighting as well as shooting tips. It was incredibly informative and we’ll be having more talks throughout the coming weeks. Jessica also entrusted me with drawing up some of the storyboards for the film, something I’ve been working on, and we’ve sorted out the main scenes we want to focus on.

On Monday we attempted the first test shoot of the film, with some establishing shots of the streets for the film. Despite some technical issues, we did manage to get some good looking footage, and will be conducting more shoots for those scenes in the future. On Tuesday, we performed another test shoot, this one focused on framing and camera movements, particularly on the interrogation scene. We also used the opportunity to experiment with the DJI Ronin Gimbal, a resource which will prove exceptionally useful for some of the shots we’ve planned to shoot.

On Friday, we had a meeting to explore options for actors for the two leads we’ve yet to cast, as well as organise their schedule. All in all, it was an extraordinarily productive week and Production is going well!
