Nearing the deadline now!

Danay has been hard at work building the timeline of the film, and it’s recently just passed that boundary of being a collection of scenes to being a cohesive and well-presented story. I’m now supervising the edit and ensuring that the pacing, tone and narrative beats are cohesive with the noir tendency.

Also, due to some technical issues with sound, I underwent some Sound workshops with India Holdstock, whose technical expertise was invaluable in ensuring the proper sound mix for the film, as both Danay and I were more unfamiliar with that side of things. Simultaneously, Julia and Millie have also been hard at work building the Electronic Press Kit for the film (EPK), which will compile the relevant information for festivals and other things.

We’ve also been filming interviews with our crew members to create a BTS featurette for the EPK, which Danay has been hard at work editing.

Meanwhile, I’ve been working on the Colour Grade for the film. Murder at Curtain Call is a very stylised and sleek looking film, and finding the right look and feel for it is quite difficult. I drafted the first version of the grade, and managed to bring out the tones of some of the shots. However, I was still having trouble with some of the finer points of the edit, so I enlisted the help of our lecturer Chris Greybe and our colleague James Langridge, both of who were able to really bring out the right tones and colours in the grade. The results speak for themselves.

Julia, Millie, and Jessica also provided feedback on the Visuals and Editing, making these final last-stage editions a team effort to ensure that every last detail of Murder at Curtain Call is just how we want it.

Today is our last day before the deadline, and with a bit of luck, by tonight we’ll have a finished film.
