Julia's Week One and Two - Pre-Production

Week 1 - Pre-production

We are finally starting our pre-production for Murder At Curtain Call! This will be the biggest project I have ever worked on .

During the first week of our pre-production for Murder at Curtain Call, alongside Amelia (co-producer) and Javier (director) we have finalised the script on Friday the 18th of February. After many hours of amending the script we are now happy to announce that we have a final draft!

During this week I created a shared documents where everyone could fill in their availability to create a schedule that would fit everyone. Then we created a google calendar which connects to our private calendars.

Emma and I photographed the crew for the website. We played with the lighting and gels to create a similar mood as the film. This took place in the ATB on Thursday the 24th of February.

Duirng this week we also pushed for our fundraiser which in the end made £2,115, but we had to decudct the fee that GoFundMe takes. Which meant we ended up with £2,044.62. From here I will make a budget!

Week 2 - Pre-production

A week of problem solving!

After a long week and a lot of problem solving. The project is now going in the right direction. This week Amelia and I have been talking about our budget for the film and what will be spent on locations/accommodation. After reevaluating the budget,I came to the conclusion that we will be able to spend £1,380 on accomidation. Which would also be one of the locations for filming!

After long discussions about locations with the director and production designer. We have come to a conclusion that we will be renting a cottage in centre of Lincoln which is within this budget. It fits the aesthetic and time period as Murder at Curtain Call is set in. Making it much easier and more cost effective to commute to the different locations around Lincolnshire. All the location and now sorted and agreed to. Our actors will also be living in this location.

After a lack of favourable male actors, we ran into scheduling issues… There were only 2 males that fit the the roles and due to our now fixed schedule, one of our main actors dropped out due to availability. The other did not reply. Amelia and I have been looking and contacting potential actors to play our main character James.

Alongside Jessica our cinematographer and her shot list, we went through the shots to create a rough shooting schedule for the film days. Unfortunately, Jessica tested positive for COVID during this week so we had to have the meeting online. We spent time deciding which scenes would be shot on which days... but this was very much dependent on each location and their availabilities. With the short window to film the film in, we would have to film it all in 8 days which means that the schedule needs to be followed very strictly.
