30th and 31st March - Day 5&6

Wednesday 30th March In the morning, part of the team headed to the accommodation, with the other half meeting us at carousel for our shoot at 10am. When we arrived at carousel, I was met with slight confusion from the staff despite my communications with one of the members agreeing upon the shoot. However, this was indeed my fault. Whilst the team were shooting, I checked the shooting dates and realised that the schedule had been created incorrectly – The Blue Room was meant to be filmed Wednesday, and Carousel Thursday. However, we didn’t have time to wallow in our mistake, and I quickly got to work on contacting The Blue Room to apologise for overlooking the issue and reschedule for the Thursday. Luckily, the manager was able to co-ordinate the room, only causing us to push back the shoot by an hour. The shoot was extremely short since we only required one shot, but the weather was no longer on our side. I spent the day wrapped up warm in the accommodation watching TV with Jasmin and Jamie. The team then returned in the evening to shoot the first of our street scenes. Whilst the crew organised themselves and began filming, Julia and I headed back to the station to collect our third actress, Paloma. Once returning to the accommodation, I checked on the crew to which I was met with upsetting news of the trouble the cars had been causing, and the cold temperature, however they were cracking on and keeping to the schedule. I spent some time inside the house helping Paloma settle in, this was not hard at all due to Paloma’s extremely open and bubbly nature.

Thursday 31st March This shoot was the first of a long 3-day push for the cast and crew, and it didn’t hold back on its challenges. Although the initial issue of date mishaps had been corrected. We experienced a lot of prep and tech issues which disrupted the shoot throughout. As well as this, the crew were fairly tense from a long week, especially with a late night shoot the night before. These issues included set design, with the curtains struggling to shut completely, ruining the night effect we were planning, and lots of fire exit signs. However, with some gaffer tape and incredible production design from Emma these were easily overcome. Due to the large space of the blue room causing echoes, and old floorboards, it was sometimes hard to get the audio right. Lastly, we had some issues with the camera equipment right from the beginning which Jess was able to quickly route out the problem. Towards the end of the shoot Jess and I headed to the station for the last time to pick up our final actor, Victor. Victor wanted to arrive early to bond with the team and to experience the set before his big day. It was lovely being able to enter him straight into production to immediately understand the talent of the team. After a long day, we finished up the shoot at 4pm, setting home for some well-earned ‘rest’. Since I had been waking up at 7am most mornings, only to return to my house past midnight, I was in desperate need of a few hours to myself. We had already supplied the cast we some pizza’s and let them have some peace without us for a few hours. At 7pm the rest of the team were already back together to help Emma create the set for the studio shoot the next day.
