26th and 27th March - Day 1&2

Saturday 26th March The big week has come and gone. Day one of shooting has finally commenced and after a nervous few days it was all put to the test. Although we weren’t scheduled to begin shooting until 5, Julia and I were up early preparing for the week ahead. After shopping for food and drinks for the actor’s accommodation, we headed to the station to pick up our first actress, Jamie. Accommodation check-in wasn’t until 4pm so we took Jamie to visit the sights of Lincoln, but not before a quick food stop. We were able to walk through the city centre and step inside The Lincoln Cathedral. A beautiful start to the week. Once we were in the house, we allowed Jamie time to settle and get to know her co-star and on-screen husband, Andre. At the same time, the crew began unloading equipment and setting up for the shoot. Today we filmed the bath scene and Andre’s half of the phone call. However, despite weeks of preparation, trouble immediately hit. Having filmed both scenes, the director and cinematographer realised that they weren’t filming through the monitor with the correct 4.2.2 Codec, rending all the footage useless. A special thank you to Theodora Clayton for recognising the issue and helping us overcome the issue promptly. In order to continue making use of the shoot day, the team re-shot the phone call, with myself acting as Madeleine for reference. Luckily Julia had kept Monday free for reshoots within the house, allowing us to recover the bath scene, which looks and sounds better than it originally had. At the end of the shoot, I had a conversation with Javier about the issues and we were able to resolve any problems before the rest of the shoot – including tense moments, the monitor and time keeping.

Sunday 27th March During last night’s shoot, Julia collected Jasmin which meant that day 2 was focused upon scenes involving the character of Linda: the bedroom scene and the conversation between James and Linda. After my conversation with Javier, today’s shoot went much smoother, and all issues which scheduling had been overcome. I was nearby the set at all times for direct communication between myself and the team, allowing me to have knowledge on what shots had been completed. Whilst this was happening, I used Emma’s camera to take a few behind-the-scenes photos on this day. As well as this, I was able to problem solve some issues such as lighting, over-running conversations and unnecessary breaks unknowingly added to the schedule. Julia cooked the cast and crew a delightful Thai Green Curry which gave everyone time to relax and bond. The crew then had a meeting to discuss any notes we had, as well as bringing all recurring issues to an end, such as unkind replies to questions.
